"Ches" is the eighth letter in the Hebrew alphabet.

The Letter Ches is the first letter in the word Chaim - life.

It is the middle letter of the word "Echad" - One - as recited in the Shema. When saying the word Echad we bear in mind: "G-d is one in the seven heavens and the earth" - which equals eight.

The eighth day is the day of circumcision.
The eight days of Chanukah.

The numerical equivalent of the letter Ches = 8 (eight).
